Real Madrid eye last-gasp move for Man Utd target – and ex-Arsenal star could hold key

Real Madrid could have Dani Ceballos leave before the transfer window closes and Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton has emerged as their top goal to replace him

Real Madrid is said to look at a movement for England International Adam Wharton when Dani Ceballos will leave the club this summer. Ceballos is strongly connected to a move to Marseille and his departure could force Real Madrid to act.

Los Blancos are one of the many clubs that are credited with an interest in Wharton, with Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City who are also one of the admirers of the midfielder.

A new report from the Spanish outlet as claims that Real Madrid is ready to speed up their interest when Ceballos leaves with Xabi Alonso who would like to give a replacement. Ceballos, who has spent time on loan in Arsenal earlier, wants more playing time and Marseille is ready to offer him that.

The report states that Marseille hopes to agree a loan movement with an obligation to buy, but the deal has yet to be completed. The report states that Wharton is the best target of Real Madrid, with Alonso a big fan of the 21-year-old.

It is claimed that it would cost more than € 80 million (£ 69 million) to convince the palace to sell and that although it would be 'a push' for Real Madrid, they would certainly explore a deal. The report adds that there are two potential alternatives for Wharton on the table.

AZ Alkmaar -midfielder Kees Smit is also interesting for Real Madrid, where scouts reportedly regularly visits the Dutch club to keep an eye on his progress. However, they were able to turn to the 18-year-old Academy Starlet Thiago Pitarch instead.

It is said of Alonso that it is an admirer of the young person and 'considers the opportunity to give him a place in the team when no one else arrives'. Pitarch signed a new long -term agreement with Real Madrid earlier this month.

So far they have spent almost £ 200 million on new signing sessions this summer, with Dean Huijsen, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alvaro Carreras and Franco Matantuono all make the switch to the Bernabeu.

However, they have not done any sale so far, with Luka Modric, Lucas Vazquez and Jesus Vallejo who all leave for free transfers after their contracts have passed. Alonso said after Real Madrid's 3-0 win over Real Oviedo on Sunday, said: “We have twenty players in the team and I will try to get the best out of all.

“Sometimes you can have a few minutes and be important; today Vini was important. My intention is that everyone contributes to the team. That will be the norm.”
