Man Utd 4-0 PSV: Elisabeth Terland scores hat-trick as Marc Skinner’s side move closer to Champions League qualifcation

The Hattrick of Elisabeth Terland pushed Manchester United a step forward in their Champions League qualifying interviews with a dominant 4-0 win over PSV Eindhoven.

The Norway international scored in the seventh, 53rd and 63rd minute in Stockholm, where Celin Bizet-Donnum also added a goal in the first half.

United, who finished third in last season's Women's Super League, participated in the competition in this second qualifying round semi -final and will now record the winner of Hammarby vs metalist Kharkiv on Saturday.

The winners of that competition enter the competition path of the third qualifying round, while the losers will enter the new women's cup from UEFA.

United forced PSV in an early error from their high press, which enables Lisa Nausund to go up Terland for the opener.

Summer signing Julia Zigiotti Olme then cut a pole of Terland's Squared Pass, and there were a few chances for Ella Toone before the Norwegian striker had the ball back in the net, most recently excluded for the outside.

It was not long before United scored for the second time, orchestrated by Bizet-Donnum, who lived back the ball before he finally worked on Toone via Anna Samberg's Cross.

The first shot of the midfielder of the English was stored, but Bizet-Donnum was the fastest to respond and lifted the ball further than goalkeeper Moon Biegel Esteves in the 32nd minute.

PSV started the second half strongly before Terland made the score at 3-0 after more loose defense of the Dutch outfit, Toone allowed to intervene and let a perfectly weighted pass slide for the Norwegian striker to end up clinically.

Terland then took her hat trick and brought the game out of reach with an excellent finish after playing a two with a tone before you slid the ball past Biegel Esteves.

Man Utd needs Champions League to prove progress

Analysis by Sky Sports' Laura Hunter:

Being eligible for the actual Champions League has long been a Manchester United mission – and remains a necessary part of their evolution among Marc Skinner.

They feel that they made decent progress last year, but to continue, attract top talent in the market and to mix it regularly with the best of the WSL, they have to compete in Europe's elite competition.

There will be some relief after overcoming a potential banana skin in PSV, which finished second in the Dutch league last year. But in the extensive qualifying process of UEFA, United still has to win on Saturday and then enter a two -legged third qualifying graphs in September.

If they reach the actual Champions League, it is well earned. And an important breakthrough in the growing ambition of the club to be viewed among the best teams of the game.
