Southgate favourite to replace Amorim as next MU boss along with former star

Former English boss Gareth Southgate is one of the favorites to replace Ruben Amorim if the man Utd manager gets the bag.

Amorim, 40, is confronted with the ax after a gloomy start of the season was awarded a bleak defeat about penalties against Grimsby of League Two in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.

The Portuguese coach took the lead last November on United in a statement from the new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe from United.

But only ten months later his fate is in the balance after his flops have not been delivered again.

And humiliating defeat against Grimsby – a club 56 places and three divisions under United in the competition – a humiliation can be too far.

Southgate is one of the bookmakers' favorites to take the lead at Old Trafford if the ax falls on Amorim.

Southgate, 54, is no longer a work since he resigned as head coach of England in the aftermath of losing the final of Euro 2024 by Spain.

And he is now a favorite on 5/1 to be the next man in the man Utd HotSeat.

Less than a year ago, the former English boss Southgate was the red -hot favorite to be the next permanent manager of the Red Devils with 2/1.

But he distanced himself from United and instead the new regime of the Ratcliffe went for a younger candidate in Amorim.

Southgate recently told Sunsport that he enjoys a slower pace of life since leaving England and writing a book “On Leadership”.

When asked about a return to management, he said: “I have no idea. It's not something I am actively looking at the moment.”

Southgate is a joint favorite with former man Utd star Michael Carrick, according to Talksport Bet.

The former midfielder of Tottenham, West Ham and England was a very depicted young manager at Middlesbrough before their form fell from a cliff last season and he was fired in June.

However, he still has powerful allies in Old Trafford, who had visited an assistant manager at the club among former managers Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Carrick was also unbeaten in three games as caretaker manager in 2021, with a record of two wins and a draw, including a memorable 3-2 victory over Arsenal.

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is 8/1 for the track, together with ex-Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino, who is currently head coach at the USA Mens National Team.

Bookies assess pswich boss Kieran McKenna, another former assistant manager at United, on 10/1.

Former Real Madrid manager Zidane, Fulham -Baas Marco Silva, Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola and former Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez are all on 12/1.
