Kane knows Bayern must improve after avoiding cup upset

Harry Kane acknowledged that Bayern Munich has plenty to work after his 94th minute has saved their blushes against Wehen Wiesbaden in the DFL-Pokal.

Bayern's third credit opponents seemed to be and out when goals from Kane and Michael Olise opened a 2-0 lead in the first round of Wednesday in Brita-Arena.

However, two goals in six minutes from Wiesbaden Captain Fatih Kaya threatened to force extra time, with Kane saw a 76th minute of penalty that was divested by Florian Stritzel.

But the captain of England took care of the second half of the stopping time, while he nodded a deep cross of Josip Stanisic to break the hearts of Wiesbaden.

In conversation with Bayern's website Kane said: “It was a crazy game, sometimes that is what the cup brings.

“We had full control and should have been two or three goals in the first half. We had a number of big opportunities to arrange it in the second half.

“They continued and knew they could turn the momentum with one goal. We had to show the character to stay calm in the last 15 minutes.

“Fortunately, we have succeeded in getting the goal at the end. We know we have a number of things to improve. We have done our work, which was the most important thing, and now we are looking forward.”

Bayern's victory was eventually earned when the Bundesliga champions 22 shots shot on the six of the hosts and hit the target with 15 of their attempts.

Bayern also achieved 3.87 expected goals (XG) to the 1.13 of Wiesbaden, their most in a DFL-Pokal competition because in the first round of the 2021-22 tournament under Julian Nagelsmann (5.86 xg) they have hit the fifth-layer Bremer SV 12-0.

Asked if Bayern had been lucky with the late goal of Kane, said Captain Joshua Kimmich: “It wasn't lucky. We should have packed it earlier.

“The number of opportunities was extremely high, but if you don't store them, it is what happens. It was important that we stayed calm then.

“In the past we have often lost our nerve towards the end. That is why I am happy that we remained patient.”

The Vincent Kompany team, who opened their Bundesliga campaign with a 6-0 routing RB Leipzig last Friday, visit Augsburg for their next game on Saturday.
