Newcastle’s deal for Nick Woltemade could tempt Liverpool into second Isak bid

Club insists that there is no more money to sign the second striker they would need to facilitate the sale of Willaway Swede.

Newcastle United is almost the completion of a £ 69.2 million deal to sign the German striker Nick Woltemade in a transfer that could have enormous consequences for the future of Alexander Isak on Tyneside.

Sources in Newcastle had continued all week that they only want to sign one striker in this window as a replacement for Callum Wilson instead of Isak. That remained on Thursday evening, despite the breakthrough in the negotiations to agree with Stuttgart for Woltemade, plus another £ 4.2 million in add-ons.

By several sources, Telegraph Sport has told that the signing of Woltemade would end their long chase for a center-forward and that, as things are, there would be no money left in the budget to spend on a second striker.

However, that could clearly change if Isak is sold, which would free up a considerable amount to spend.

When asked what the signing of Woltemade was intended for the future of ISAK, a senior source replied that his departure was only one condition to punish, but he would stay in the club if Liverpool did not match the asking price – which was around £ 150 million throughout the summer – and Newcastle has no other striker ready to arrive. The Newcastle recruitment team is still looking at potential arrivals with Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson.

However, that could clearly change if Isak is sold, which would free up a considerable amount to use in this window, or in January, on another center-prior.

The fact that Newcastle is spent so much to a striker will offer Liverpool encouragement to make a second offer for the Sweden International, which remains determined to force his way out of the club.

Liverpool had an £ 110 million offer for the 25-year-old that was quickly rejected at the start of the month, but refused to give the hope to sign a player who is desperate to join them and refused to play for Newcastle this season.

Whether the club hierarchy will mitigate their position to allow Isak to be seen, but there will of course be a suspicion that it will do.

A club statement, signed by chairman Yasir al-Rahayyan, said last week that Newcastle did not “provide the conditions that was met” for Isak to be sold in this window.

Those conditions are seen as Newcastle that signed two strikers before the Deadline of Monday and Liverpool that agree their asking price of £ 150 million for Isak.

Regardless of what the future has in store for Isak, the signing of Woltemade would be an exciting and it would put an end to a three -month search for Wilson's replacement.

Woltemade fits in the profile for the Newcastle search for a center-forward. The German international is long and athletic at 6ft 6in, but as he showed this summer for the under-21 side of his country, is also technically healthy and has a good all-round game.

The 23-year-old scored 17 goals in 33 games for Stuttgart last season and was heavily connected to a move to Bayern Munich throughout the summer.

But Newcastle seems to have preceded the German giants by agreeing a fee for the player and will hope to complete the transfer for the weekend.

Liverpool has always maintained that they will wait for Newcastle encouragement before making a second bid, but will certainly want to test their decision to hold Isak.
