Colby Covington denies he turned down fights against Ian Machado Garry and Shavkat Rakhmonov as he reacts to their recent clash

Colby Covington returns to action for the first time in almost a year and will face Joaquin Buckley in the UFC Tampa main event this Saturday.

Colby Covington's last appearance was against Leon Edwards last December, where he was once again unsuccessful in an undisputed welterweight title fight.

Since then, 'Chaos' has been recovering from a broken foot suffered in that fight, but has had no shortage of fight offers.

Colby Covington denies turning down fights against Ian Machado Garry and Shavkat Rakhmonov

After losing to Edwards, Covington seemingly turned his attention to Ian Machado Garry, continually targeting him with online attacks, possibly looking for a fight with the Irishman.

'The Future' stated several times that he wanted to fight 'Chaos', but he continually claimed that the former interim champion was avoiding him and even claimed that he was offered a fight against Covington for UFC Tampa, but Colby turned it down.

Earlier this month, a welterweight title fight was scheduled between Belal Muhammad and Shavkat Rakhmonov, but after Muhammad pulled out, Rakhmonov didn't have many options left.

One of those, he said, was Covington, but 'The Nomad' claimed Covington also turned down the late notice opportunity to fight him.

“That's fake news, that's a complete lie. You can ask Dana White, you can ask Hunter Campbell. Those guys have said multiple times, 'Colby doesn't turn down fights,'” he began explaining in a interview with Shak MMA.

“I accepted to fight Shavkat, I wanted to fight him on short notice last week and they didn't want to go that way, they said 'Hey, go beat Buckley and we can get you a fight with one of them next time deliver.' fight'.

“As for Ian Garry, I was never offered that fight. I told him you have three conditions if you want to fight me because what does fighting him do for my career, he's a cuck… He doesn't do anything for my career, he has no achievements,” Covington continued.

Covington Reacts to Ian Machado Garry vs. Shavkat Rakhmonov Fight at UFC 310

Rakhmonov maintained his undefeated record by scoring a unanimous victory over Garry and after the fight he faced the current champion, Belal Muhammad.

Despite this, Covington believes he can leapfrog the Kazakh and deny him a title shot, considering both he and the Irishman were 'unmasked' during their UFC 310 bout.

“They're not ready for the spotlight, the five-lap spotlight of the main event. They were good against guys who are newcomers and have no names in three rounds, but now you're talking about guys who have been here.

“Garry and Shavkat have been exposed. There's a lot of hype around those guys and they didn't prove that last week, neither of them, so I don't see anything spectacular there,” Covington claimed.
