Kane: 2026 World Cup WON’T be last chance to win major tournament with England
Harry Kane has dismissed the idea that the 2026 World Cup will be his last major tournament with England.
The 31-year-old country's all-time top scorer has attracted criticism for his performances for the Three Lions this year, particularly during England's run to the Euro 2024 finals in the summer.
Kane has faced pressure from the likes of Ollie Watkins and Dominic Solanke, both of whom had impressive campaigns last season, while interim boss Lee Carsley decided to drop him for the trip to Greece last week.
Nevertheless, Kane insists he still has many international days ahead of him and dismisses the idea that the upcoming World Cup will be his last chance to win anything with the national team.
'I don't think so [it will be my last chance]' he told Sky Sports. 'When you're thirty, you sometimes have the impression that the end is in sight.
“But for me personally, I'm performing at the highest level I've ever played and I'm feeling as good as I've ever felt, so it's just about taking in the moment.
'I don't like to look too far ahead, I have never done that in my career. The World Cup will be exciting, it will be an incredible event in America and ultimately it will be on the verge of winning it.
'As always, you look at where you are and what you need to improve and that will be no different in a few years.'
Kane remains one of the first names on the team sheet as his goalscoring performances remain among the best on the continent. The Bayern Munich star took home the European Golden Boot last season for his incredible debut season in Bavaria.
And he has started this season in similar fashion, with 17 goals and nine assists in 16 games in all competitions.
He will be happy to see his former Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel in the England dugout during the next international break in March.
Ahead of his return to Germany, Kane attended the unveiling of his statue, which has been in storage for almost five years. The England skipper posed for photos with the sculpture at the Peter May Center in Walthamstow, east London.
The statue of the former Tottenham star is said to have been completed in 2020 at a cost of £7,200, commissioned a year later by Waltham Forest Council.
But the image of the Walthamstow-born star sitting on a green sofa and holding a football on his thigh has been mocked by fans who described it as 'the stuff of nightmares'.
