Lee Jae-sung scored twice as Mainz recorded a shock 2-1 victory over Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich.
Competition events
Bayern went into Saturday's match at the Mewa Arena with an unbeaten record in the league under Vincent Kompany, but that streak came to an end.
South Korea international Lee struck four minutes before half-time after pounced on a defensive blunder by the lackluster visitors.
Lee then doubled the hosts' lead on the hour mark, turning beautifully into the penalty area and finishing off a superb attacking move, leaving the Bayern defense on the spot.
Bayern, missing eight players through injury, including top scorer Harry Kane, pulled a goal back in the 87th minute with Leroy Sane.
They remain in first place with 33 points, four ahead of Bayer Leverkusen, who won 2–0 in Augsburg.
