French MMA superstar Cedric Doumbe has called for a mixed rules fight with Jake Paul in his latest big-name call-up.
The kickboxing star turned MMA fighter was in Lyon on Saturday evening to help pick three contract winners at the PFL Europe finals. And he took some time to cut an in-cage promo mentioning some future opponents.
He joked about his infamous sole career loss to Baysangur 'Baki' Chamsoudinov by sweeping the cage before going in, and called back to their fight earlier this year. There it was stated that he was arrested after both men noticed that a splinter had lodged in his toe and they called for a temporary stop.
Cedric Doumbe berates Jake Paul as he calls for a mixed rules fight
Cedric Doumbe suggested a number of big fights during his promo for his next PFL outing, but none got a bigger reaction than one of combat sports' most controversial names. The massive French star is considerably lighter than Jake Paul, but would be in line with his overall opponent size.
And Doumbe suggested the pair take part in a mixed rules battle, with the ruleset changing each round. Demetrious Johnson had a similar fight in ONE Championship, and Doumbe wants to get a round of boxing in before moving to MMA.
“I know, I know, I know you guys want to see a real fight,” Doumbe told a sold-out crowd at the LDLC Arena in Lyon. “But I gotta get paid… Jake Paul, I'd like to say you're a good fighter, but you're not a good fighter.
“We can do it in France, we can do it in America. You're a big star in the US, I'm a big star in France, let's make it happen. First round boxing, second round MMA, whatever you want, you get knocked out.
Jake Paul claims Nate Diaz is scared of MMA fights as he gives an update on his PFL debut
In January 2023, Jake Paul announced that he had signed with PFL in a deal that would see him take an equity stake in the promotion. But the most exciting part was the guarantee that he would eventually step into the Smart Cage for a fight of his own.
He has become known for fighting MMA legends in the boxing ring, knocking out Tyron Woodley, Mike Perry and Ben Askren during his impressive run. But he is now moving to the cage and is keen to meet his former opponent Nate Diaz in a rematch within his sport.
However, he seems to believe that Diaz is afraid of the challenge. “We want to, but our opponents don't really want that,” Paul told MMA Fighting about his future in the cage. “It's funny that Nate Diaz is actually afraid to fight me in MMA.
“The biggest payday of his life would be for me and him in MMA. I'm ready.” Diaz hit back in a tweet, telling Paul: “Sign the contract Scary and not in 12 months and in an as****y organization Scary.”
