Fonseca rues Milan’s decision-making and profligacy after Genoa stalemate

Paulo Fonseca criticized AC Milan's decision-making and profligacy during the goalless draw against Genoa.

The Rossoneri were frustrated at San Siro on the day the club celebrated their 125th anniversary, failing to score for the third time in their last four home games.

That was despite registering 22 shots on target to the opposition's five, with substitute Alvaro Morata coming closest to breaking the deadlock when he hit the crossbar in the second half.

“I think we played a good game and created a lot,” Fonseca told DAZN.

“The players wanted to win, but we just lacked the goal and also the quality of the final decision. The match was played with a good attitude. We recovered a lot of high balls. We had 22 shots, we missed it goal.”

“We were aggressive without the ball and often came close to Genoa's area. It is not a matter of confidence, but of the quality of the last choice.

“Sometimes we talk about attackers, but our game also lacks quality in crossing and shooting. I have full confidence in our attackers.”

Milan were sent off at full-time, having won just once in their last five league matches, and Fonseca sympathized with the supporters.

“It's normal for this to happen,” he added. “We wanted to win for our fans, who are always with us.

“Today we can all recognize that the team gave everything. I am dissatisfied with the result; so are the fans, and I understand them.”
