Real Madrid are ready to boost their defensive potential by adding Legané's youngster Fati to their youth setup.
Real Madrid are close to signing Leganés star Lamini Fati, an 18-year-old central defender who starred for Los Pepineros' 'B' team.
How much will Real Madrid pay for Lamini Fati?
Madrid have a verbal agreement with Leganés and – barring any eleventh-hour setbacks – the transfer will be announced shortly. In a deal first reported by Spanish media outlet Relevo, Los Blancos are preparing to pay a fee of more than €100,000 ($105,000) for Fati, Leganés sources have told AS. The amount is believed to be close to his buyout amount.
Fati will start his career in Madrid in the youth setup of the fifteen-time European champions. This newspaper understands that the youngster will initially join Madrid's third team or the under-19s.
However, in the near future, Fati is also likely to get opportunities to show what he can do for Real Madrid Castilla, the club's 'B' team, which plays in the Primera RFEF, the third division of Spanish football. Coached by Real Madrid legend Raúl González Blanco, Castilla need reinforcements after a spate of injuries.
What is Fati like as a player?
Fati is a player with an imposing physique and comfortable on the ball. He is a regular for Leganés B in the Tercera RFEF, Spain's fifth tier. His performances generated interest from Valencia last summer. Leganés managed to fend off Los Che's overtures but have now failed to keep hold of the player despite Madrid's continued push.
Had Leganés refused to sell, Madrid would have forced Los Pepineros' hand by increasing their offer to trigger Fati's release clause. Butarque bosses were reluctant to confront Madrid over the transfer; they felt it was in the interest of their club to maintain good relations with their major neighbors in the Spanish capital.
