Colby Covington says he was too busy campaigning for Donald Trump when he should have been training

On Saturday night at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, USA, Colby Covington suffered the fifth loss of his career, falling short to Joaquin Buckley.

Early in the fight his opponent cut him to pieces with huge blows. However, as time passed, 'Chaos' worked its way back into the match.

Unfortunately, he couldn't fix it because the doctor felt he couldn't continue with such a terrible cut.

Ultimately, Covington attributed the loss to the short-term nature of the battle, helping Donald Trump “prepare” for the US elections.

In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, the 36-year-old said: “I'm going to come back from this stronger, I'm not going to let this define me. It's one fight, and I'm more than just a fighter.

“I'm going to let this fuel me. I'm going to have a full training camp. I came in at short notice. This was for the company. This was for the fans.

“This wasn't a full training camp – I was campaigning for Trump and preparing him. I wasn't even in the training room. I got off the couch.

“It was hard to let it go like that, I feel like I just got the wind and I was going to be strong. But it is what it is. That's life. I don't dwell on the past; I focus on the future.”
