Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool should sign a left-back in January, while Andy Robertson is going through a 'difficult time'.
The Scotland captain endured a nightmare afternoon in the 2-2 draw against Fulham on Saturday when he was sent off after just 17 minutes when he brought down Harry Wilson on his last return.
Arne Slot's side recovered well to take a point, but they have now recorded back-to-back draws in the Premier League and their lead at the top of the table has been cut to two points – with in-form Chelsea in hot pursuit.
Liverpool's next league match takes them to Tottenham, buoyed by a 5-0 win over Southampton, and Carragher believes his former club will need to address a problem at left-back sooner or later.
“Robertson is struggling and it's a very unforgiving position,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
'(Against Fulham) It doesn't look like he's backing off completely, he's taken a hit (earlier in the half) and then gingerly checks the ball before getting a red card.
'He needs help. Liverpool don't have any backup and that is something they need to address in January.”
Former Liverpool defender Carragher not only identified the man who could help his old team, but also explained why they could be able to get a deal over the line.
“(Milos) Kerkez has been a revelation at Bournemouth,” Carragher said.
'The technical director who brought him to Bournemouth (Richard Hughes) is now sporting director at Liverpool.
'Kerkez looks like a full-back and is aggressive. He has been fantastic since coming into the Premier League and is someone to keep an eye on in the future, whether he stays or moves on.”
Despite dropping points in Saturday's home game, Carragher insists Liverpool's ten-man performance bodes well for the rest of the season. He mentioned Slot because of his tactical insight.
“I think Slot will wake up and think, 'What I saw there with my team, we have a great chance of being successful,'” Carragher said.
'The reason Liverpool got something from Fulham's game has a lot to do with Slot. He's as good as anyone in the Premier League at spotting it and changing it.”
