Jamie Carragher has called for Liverpool to sign a new left-back in January to help “struggling” stalwart Andy Robertson.
It remains to be seen whether the Reds will be active when the January transfer window opens in a few weeks' time, with Arne Slot's side riding high at the top of both the Premier League and Champions League, although some things could happen .
One part of Liverpool's squad that has come under scrutiny is the left-back, with Robertson, 30, looking out of form. The Scotland captain was sent off after just 17 minutes in last weekend's 2-2 draw with Fulham and has struggled to reach his usual high standards this season.
The situation is now at a stage where Carragher believes Slot and co will need to bring in another player in that position when the transfer window reopens.
“Robertson is struggling and it's a very unforgiving position,” Carragher told Sky Sports on Monday evening.
“[Against Fulham] He doesn't look like he's running back at all, he's taken a hit and then gingerly checks the ball before getting a red card. He needs help. Liverpool don't have any support and that is something they need to address in January.”
Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez has had a fine season and is said to have attracted admiring looks from elsewhere in the Premier League, including from top clubs.
Carragher believes he would be ideal to challenge Robertson for a place in the team and pointed out that Liverpool's new sporting director Richard Hughes previously worked on the deal that brought Kerkez to Bournemouth.
He continued: “Kerkez has been a revelation at Bournemouth. The technical director who brought him to Bournemouth [Richard Hughes] is now sporting director at Liverpool.
“Kerkez looks like a full-back and is aggressive. He has been fantastic since coming into the Premier League and is someone to keep an eye on in the future, whether he stays or moves on.”
Kerkez recently hinted that he wants to play for an elite club in the future, telling The Guardian: “I fully believe in my ability to compete at the top. Every game we have pushed hard, but we know we are only just getting there.” be the top.” mid-season. In the Premier League, fortunes can change dramatically in just two games.”
