OFFICIAL: Brest receive planning permission for new stadium

Stade Brestois today confirmed that they have been granted a building permit by the city of Brest to build a new stadium. The stadium, which will be called Arkéa Park, will have the same capacity of 15,000 as their current home ground, the Stade Francis-Le Blé.

Francis-Le Blé has encountered certain problems this season after the club qualified for the Champions League. Brest were not allowed to play a single match on their own field and had to play in the Stade du Roudourou of their local rival EA Guingamp.

The Brest stadium currently receives exemptions from the Ligue de Football Professionnel to play in Ligue 1. The club has confirmed that renovating the ground would prove to be more expensive than building Arkéa Park.

The club stated that if they had renovated the stadium, they would have had to reduce the capacity from 25% to 40%, while the works would also have been jeopardized.[the] demolition of private homes and one or two buildings of the Charles de Foucauld School.”

While the club also emphasized that Arkéa Park would not be limited to just 17 Ligue 1 matches per year, and that they would aim to turn it into a modern stadium that can handle events all year round.
