In recent months, Barcelona sporting director Deco has led the club's push for new deals for several first-team players. Pedri and Gavi are the furthest advanced, while the cases of Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong are not far behind.
There is a lot of confidence for Araujo that he will sign a new contract before the end of the season. The case is different for Frenkie de Jong, who has so far shown no willingness to extend his stay in Catalonia, which expires in 2026.
However, Alfred Martinez has now reported that Barcelona president Joan Laporta believes De Jong will want to stay, and as such he expects contract talks to go well in the coming months.
However, should De Jong (or Araujo) fail to agree a new contract before next summer's transfer kicks off, they will be put up for sale. Barcelona have no plans to allow any player to terminate their current contract, and therefore this approach will be taken.
