Moving to a larger location is not an attractive option for many players and supporters of Stade Brestois.
Having officially booked their place in the next stage of the UEFA Champions League, the Brittany club have expressed an interest in having the Stade de France host their home matches for the knockout portion of that tournament.
All their group matches in that competition took place at the Stade de la Roudourou in Guingamp, including the 1-0 win over PSV on matchday six.
Club captain Brendan Chardonnet (29) tells RMC Sport that, if it were up to them, they would prefer to have those knockout matches in Brittany. “Fans can get around quite easily, just like our friends and families. If we had the choice, we would like to stay in Guingamp.”
Chardonnet is not the only one who thinks this way, as many Brest supporters are against letting their team play in Saint-Denis. A banner was spotted on Sunday with the text: “The Stade de France, we don't want it.”
Ultimately, it may not be the fault of the players or supporters of this club. As it stands, Stade de la Roudourou does not meet UEFA's standards for future Champions League knockout stage matches.
Éric Roy's men are unbeaten in their three European matches in Guingamp as they currently sit seventh in the table, a point above last season's runners-up Borussia Dortmund for an automatic place in the last 16.
Brest's final meeting before the knockout round takes place at Stade de la Roudourou on January 29 against defending champions Real Madrid.
