Lamine Yamal’s new contract: Barcelona’s 2030 plan is underway

Barça are sticking to the two-part plan they drew up in the summer of 2023.

“Of course he will renew; Lamine is a Barça fan.” These were the words of Jorge Mendes at the Tuttosport gala, where the rising star of world football was crowned the new Golden Boy.

Mendes' statement reaffirmed that the plan for a 'two-phase renewal', drawn up in the summer of 2023 by Barcelona's player representative and sporting director Deco, remains on track. When Lamine initially signed a contract until 2026, FIFA restrictions prevented him from entering into a contract longer than three years as a minor. However, they had already outlined an extension for when he turned 18.

Naturally, the economic conditions of this expansion have evolved. Lamine's extraordinary progress last season – capped by an impressive European Championship performance – has catapulted him to the top of world football. His achievements have been recognized with the Golden Boy Award, the Kopa Trophy and the award for the best player of the last European Championship. These milestones have significantly increased its market value, which now stands at €150 million – €90 million more than a year ago.

Lamine Yamal wants to stay at FC Barcelona

As a result, the terms of his upcoming mega-contract are still being carefully negotiated. Jorge Mendes was recently in Barcelona to continue talks that are expected to lead to a successful agreement.

Both publicly and privately, Lamine, who is currently injured, has expressed his clear desire to stay at Barça. Known for respecting his clients' wishes, Jorge Mendes has a history of keeping players where they want to be. This was clearly visible in Cristiano Ronaldo, who stayed at Manchester United until he was ready for a new challenge. The same goes for Lamine.

Mendes also recognizes that few clubs in the world can rival LaLiga when it comes to developing and showcasing young talent. Barça, for its part, is fully committed to creating the ideal environment for Lamine so that he can concentrate solely on his performance on the pitch.

It's also worth noting that Barça's upcoming 2026 elections add another layer of meaning. For President Joan Laporta, securing the renewal of the world's most sought-after young player – alongside the inauguration of the new Camp Nou – would be the ultimate electoral statement.
