Rashford takes aim at Man Utd team-mates and promises transfer announcement

Marcus Rashford has vowed not to 'make a bad situation worse' by leaving Manchester United under a cloud, just like some of his former team-mates.

Rashford, 27, dropped a bombshell over his future on Tuesday, revealing he is 'ready for a new challenge' away from his boyhood club, which he joined at the age of seven. The forward has recently been linked with a move away from United, who are ready to cash in on their academy graduate star who has stagnated over the past 18 months.

In the nine years he has been part of United's first team, Rashford has seen many players leave in dire circumstances. But the England international, whose lackluster form has meant he has not played for his country since the 2022 World Cup, wants to walk out with his head held high.

“If I know a situation is already bad, I'm not going to make it worse,” Rashford told Henry Winter during a visit to his old primary school, Button Lane, to hand out Christmas presents. “I've seen other players leave in the past and I don't want to be that person. If I leave, I will make a statement and it will be mine.”

The 27-year-old, who is 12th on the list of United's all-time top scorers, also said: “If I leave it will be 'no hard feelings'. You won't get any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That's me as a person.”

Rashford's comments come after he was left out of the Red Devils' squad for Sunday's Manchester derby. United eventually won 2–1 against their bitter rivals, City, with Rashford having to train at the club's training ground on the morning of the match and watch the match at home.

New United manager Ruben Amorim explained his decision to Sky Sports ahead of the match, saying: “We are trying to evaluate everything in terms of training performance, game performance, commitment to teammates and bringing their teammates forward. Everything is on the line if we analyze and try to choose the players. It's my selection Simple.

“I don't want to send a message, it's just an evaluation and they know it. The players are really very smart. Everyone understands my decision and I have to choose. It's a simple selection. Of course the context is difficult because we have to win games and we have a difficult situation now.

“I pay attention to everything, the way you eat, the way you wear your clothes when you go to a match. Everything. I make my evaluation and then I decide. There is communication after the last training. They are in order. They had I trained this morning and I was there. They trained very well.”
