Simeone experiments with new formation ahead of huge Barca-Atletico showdown

Atletico Madrid are the best team in Spain, having recorded 11 wins in a row and drawing themselves level with Barcelona at the top of the table in La Liga. The two will face off in a mouth-watering showdown at Montjuic on Saturday at 9pm CEST.

Los Colchoneros are already well underway with their preparation for the match, while Barcelona took two days off after the defeat to Leganes. Marca say that on Tuesday the starters from their victory over Getafe did not take part in the training match, which saw Simeone experiment with a 5-4-1 shape, as opposed to the 4-4-2 that has become the norm in recent weeks.

Diario AS also say that left-back Javi Galan has beaten Simeone of late and will continue on the left flank. Meanwhile, Conor Gallagher has seen less regular football of late and was left on the bench against Los Azulones, but was able to return to the starting line-up on Saturday. It is noted that Gallagher is happy in the Spanish capital and has the full confidence of Simeone.

Los Rojiblancos Lately they have typically used Antoine Griezmann and Julian Alvarez to take the lead, while Rodrigo de Paul and Pablo Barrios have been in the center of the pitch. Simeone will likely see this quartet as playing a key role in breaking Barcelona's offside trap this weekend.
