Rashford leaving United is inevitable according to Carragher

Marcus Rashford's departure from Manchester United is inevitable according to Sky Sports pundit and former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher.

The Manchester United and England forward acknowledged on Tuesday during an interview with Henry Winter that he was “ready for a new challenge”.

The news came after manager Ruben Amorim left both Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho out of the squad to face Manchester City last Sunday, which United won 2-1.

According to Carragher, there is certainly a move planned in which Amorim wants to put his own stamp on the team.

β€œMost managers who come in want to send a message to the squad about the standards of the football club. In some ways it feels like a bigger decision than it actually is,” Carragher said.

“I mean, is Marcus Rashford in the best XI? How good is he? We're not talking about a world-famous superstar here. I actually think we talk too much about Marcus Rashford, if I'm completely honest.”

Rashford has played his entire professional career with Manchester United, while he has scored seven goals in 24 games in all competitions this season.

He failed to reach double figures for goals last season, following the 2022-2023 campaign in which he scored 30 times. According to Carragher, his performances do not justify a place in the team.

“He's a good player, he's not a great player, he's been a really good player for Manchester United. It's time for him to leave the club, but will there still be people with the wages the boy gets and things like that.” “Who knows,” he said.

“I think a parting of the ways is inevitable at some point. For Manchester United and Rashford, the sooner that happens, the better.”
