‘He’s hurt’… Logan Paul unleashed barrage of punches when he thought he was about to KO Floyd Mayweather

Logan Paul felt like he was on the cusp of a historic boxing match against Floyd Mayweather in their unprecedented 2021 clash.

Logan Paul and Floyd Mayweather took part in a unique boxing match in 2021, in front of an audience of millions worldwide. The fight took place in the midst of the global COVID-19 pandemic, providing educated and casual fight fans with the ultimate entertainment and distraction from the chaos.

Due to the practice nature of Paul vs. Mayweather, no winner was announced after the eight-round fight. But many still debate how the fight should have been scored if the matchup had been booked as a professional boxing match.

In the opening minutes of the fight, Paul quickly gained confidence as he appeared to land a clean right hand to the jaw of the undefeated Mayweather. After landing the punch, Paul threw technique and precision out the window as he bombarded Mayweather with a flurry of wild punches.

Although Mayweather didn't fold, Paul believes he was about to knock the all-time great out cold in the first round.

During a post-fight episode of the IMPAULSIVE podcast, Paul talked about his early swarm against Mayweather and his mindset during the barrage.

“In the first round I got him with a good shot,” Paul explained. “After the barrage in the first round, that… something came over me. I hit him with a right, he fell a little, and in my head I thought, 'I think I just hit him in a sensitive spot!'. And I heard it [Jake] go 'He's hurt!'…for a split second, and I thought I knew what to look for…

“The clip released, no skill, just pounding away. And when it happened, in my head I thought, 'I think I just staggered the greatest fighter of all time!'” Paul continued. “Hit him with an uppercut, and every 1 in 5 punches landed in him or hit him in the back of the head. He was so hard to hit! And he had to respect that I came to fight.”

Although there was mutual respect between Paul and Mayweather in the moments following their fight, things quickly turned hostile when Paul accused Mayweather of straining him financially. As of October 2023, Paul insists he has not received the previously agreed amount for the Mayweather fight.

After their fight, Paul made a bold claim about Mayweather's punching power, claiming that fellow influencer KSI punched harder than the boxing Hall of Famer. Paul only returned to the ring last year in a clash against Dillon Danis, winning their professional match by disqualification.

Mayweather retired from professional boxing after a 2017 fight with UFC superstar Conor McGregor. After leaving the professional scene, Mayweather remains active in exhibition fights, most recently facing John Gotti III in August.

Paul and Mayweather are both expected to return to the ring in 2025. A next opponent for Mayweather has not been announced at the time of writing, and Paul was recently linked with a possible clash with McGregor in India.

A source in Paul's inner circle recently told Bloody Elbow that the McGregor fight is in preliminary talks, confirming McGregor's post to X on Tuesday. What Paul vs. As for Mayweather, a future rematch is certainly possible, but Paul may opt for a more calculated approach for part 2.
