Arsenal Women 3-2 Bayern Munich Women: Mariona Caldentey nets late penalty as Gunners top Champions League Group C

Mariona Caldentey scored a late penalty to send Arsenal through to the quarter-finals of the Women's Champions League as winners of Group C with a 3–2 win over Bayern Munich.

Renee Slegers' side knew that with three points they would leapfrog Bayern and top the group, giving them a better placement in the draw for the last eight.

The Gunners took a seven-minute lead at Meadow Park – the match was moved from the Emirates Stadium due to a clash with the men's Carabao Cup quarter-final – thanks to a Glodis Perla Viggosdottir own goal.

Magdalena Eriksson equalized for Bayern before half-time when she curled home a corner and then put her side ahead in the second half, stretching to turn in Giulia Gwinn's cross.

However, Bayern's lead lasted less than 60 seconds when Alessia Russo struck home from a corner.

Arsenal needed a winner and had a chance when Tuva Hansen handled Caldentey's effort with four minutes to go. Caldentey got to the spot and coolly sent home the penalty to extend Arsenal's unbeaten run to eleven games in all competitions.
