Jamal Musiala has spoken out about his future, with the Bayern Munich star's current contract set to expire in 18 months.
Bayern are engaged in talks with Musiala's camp over a new contract, but talks appear to have stalled and the 21-year-old's comments will put the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal on alert.
All three clubs have been linked with Musiala in recent years and the player has admitted he could leave Bayern in the future. In an interview with Bild, Musiala said: “Unfortunately I can't give the fans a Christmas present.
“There will be no news in the near future. We have had a lot of matches lately, a lot of traveling. My focus is to concentrate on the matches. I want to be free on the pitch, even if there is a lot of pressure from outside .
“All in all, all the parameters that contribute to this big decision must feel good and right to me. I would like to leave my mark on an era at FC Bayern. If I extend my contract with FC Bayern, that is my ambition and my goal.
“But I also know that you have to work for it, with victories, titles and major prizes. Then you get that kind of prestige: I want to earn that at FC Bayern.”
His comments come after United striker Joshua Zirkzee, signed from Bologna this summer, was asked by a fan to try to persuade Musiala to join the club. The pair are good friends, having previously been teammates together at Bayern, and Zirkzee told the fan: “I tried. I tried!”
Musiala was also questioned about the exchange and he told German newspaper Welt am Sonntag: “You always joke with friends and dream of playing together on a team one day. The jokes go both ways: I also told Josh that he had to come back Bayern. But you shouldn't take that too seriously.
“I am very happy at FC Bayern and fully focused on our goals with the club and the national team. I don't think too much about where I will be playing in five years. In the football world, things can always change quickly.” “
