Colby Covington hits back at Jon Jones’ scathing ‘Clown’ tweet after UFC Tampa defeat

It didn't take long for Colby Covington to notice Jon Jones' social media attacks in response to his UFC Tampa main event loss to Joaquin Buckley.

Colby Covington's latest attempt to get closer to potential UFC gold fell far short of UFC Tampa. It was a dominant performance from Joaquin Buckley, who defeated Covington via TKO after the cageside doctor ruled Covington could not compete further due to a nasty cut on his head.

Leading up to UFC Tampa, Covington renewed his old beef with UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who shared a room with him during their time at Iowa Central Community College.

Despite their cordial early past, things between Covington and Jones are anything but friendly. After Covington lost to Buckley at UFC Tampa, Jones eviscerated Covington in a social media post, taunting his performance and bragging about his victory in front of Donald Trump last month.

It didn't take long for Covington to address Jones' tweet during a recent stream on his Twitch channel.

Colby Covington roasts 'Cheater' Jon Jones after post-fight tweet

“Of course Jones is talking about me, he wishes he was like me, a man who was so beautiful and had so much respect. He has no respect,” Covington said of Jones. “He lost all respect when he started using drugs and hitting pregnant women. There is nothing to respect about Jon. He cheated on his entire career, his wife and his taxes, so he's a terrible person.

“Of course he was talking about a saint and someone who is a law-abiding citizen like me! Someone who stands for law and order, the army, troops. So damn Jon Jones, he's nothing!”

Jones defeated Stipe Miocic in his first heavyweight title defense at UFC 309 last month in front of Covington's favorite US President Trump. After beating Miocic, Jones shook hands with the incoming US president and did his famous dance during his post-fight celebrations.

With the loss to Buckley, Covington has dropped four of his last six fights, including two title fight losses to Kamaru Usman. His last victory came against former American Top Team ally Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272.

Jon Jones is nearing his 2025 return against Tom Aspinall

Meanwhile, Jones is turning his attention to ongoing negotiations with UFC top brass over a possible return in 2025. While the heavyweight champion is confident he will get at least one more fight, he wants a restructured contract and a lucrative payout to settle it take on interim champion Tom Aspinall.

Covington faces a dwindling number of options for opponents if he wants to return to the Octagon in 2025. He was briefly linked to a possible clash with Ian Machado Garry at UFC 303, but fight talks fell through.

As for Covington and Jones, their bad blood continues to boil from afar, and things will likely never become cordial between the two sides. Expect more animosity to build between them as they prepare for their UFC return fights.
