Arsenal moved one step closer to reaching the last four of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.
The January transfer window is just around the corner and Mikel Arteta has not been shy when it comes to investing in his squad. Arsenal have not been the well-oiled machine they previously were, struggling at times in the final third of open play.
There is often talk about the Gunners going after a recognized striker. Gabriel Jesus reminded him of his abilities with a hat-trick against the Eagles, while Kai Havertz was often the man in the middle of the attack.
Arsenal are in the midst of their third attempt at the Premier League title and some January recruits could help their cause. Here's the latest transfer news from the capital.
Sterling “not in Arteta's plans”
Bacary Sagna believes Raheem Sterling is not in Arteta's plans, despite the winger only being loaned out a few months ago. Sterling was a deadline day mover, leaving Chelsea, where he was deemed surplus to requirements by Enzo Maresca, for the Emirates.
However, opportunities remained few and far between for the ex-Manchester City man, who knew Arteta from his days at the Etihad and made just two Premier League starters.
Sagna told Paddy Power: “There's no doubt that Raheem Sterling is a talented player, but it's not just about talent, it's about whether you fit into the team and whether you fit into the manager's system. Mikel Arteta will be the person to ask about this as he is the person who spends time with the player and watches him in training every day.
“The manager brought him in at the start of the season but for whatever reason we are not aware of he is not in his plans at the moment but that could change.”
Tierney returns after contract call-up
Kieran Tierney admitted it felt 'great' to be playing for Arsenal again as they left Palace – despite the Scot being on the verge of leaving. The left-back spent last season on loan in Spain with Real Sociedad after falling down the pecking order under Arteta, but was called up in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on Wednesday evening.
Tierney commented on social media after the match: “It feels great to be back in the Emirates! Thank you so much for the welcome… always grateful. On to the semi-finals.”
Despite jubilant about his return, Tierney's days in the red of Arsenal could be numbered. The north Londoners have decided not to trigger the option year on Tierney's contract ahead of the January transfer window and a move back is looming in the coming months, with Celtic considering a return.
Kiwior exit considered
According to reports, Arsenal are considering whether Jakub Kiwior will leave the Emirates. Napoli were among those interested in the Polish defender, but Arsenal were keen to keep him.
However, that attitude could now change as the versatile defender is by no means a starter in the backline. Corriere del Mezzogiorno reports that the Gunners are open to the idea of him leaving on loan with an obligation to buy, but that talks over his wages are needed.
