According to L'Équipe, as many as ten players could leave Olympique Lyonnais during the January transfer window as they look to avoid a possible relegation to Ligue 2.
After assessing that the Rhône club could face possible relegation to the French second tier at the end of the season due to their precarious financial situation, Lyon were forced to find ways to raise money to avoid that outcome to prevent. One of these methods is the sale of multiple players during the winter transfer window that starts on January 1.
Three players could potentially join/return to Lyon. All three of these players come from sister club Botafogo: Thiago Almada, Luiz Henrique and Adryelson. The former is expected to complete a move elsewhere in Brazil upon his return to the club, L'Équipe understands.
Apart from the three potential newcomers, there is a list of ten players who could leave the club. Anthony Lopes, Saël Kumbedi, Mohamed Diawara and Paul Akouokou compile a list of four players who have had few or no chances this season. That's why leaving would make sense.
However, there are still five players in the first team that OL would like to sell in an attempt to raise finances. Ernest Nuamah, Gift Orban, Rayan Cherki, Maxence Caqueret and Saïd Benrahma could all also be sold. Lyon could also look to release Wilfired Zaha from his loan early to avoid paying a hefty percentage of his wages.
