France lost 2-0 in the first stage of their UEFA Nations League quarterfinals against Croatia in Split on Thursday and two Premier League players were selected as perpetrators for the defeat.
William Saliba van Arsenal stood next to Liverpool in Ibrahima Konaté for Les Bleus when Croatia raced in the first half in a lead of two goals. Konaté had a particularly scorching 45 minutes, which Ivan Perisic covered on the first goal of Croatia and the second at sea.
“Rarely have we seen him suffer so much,” said L'équipe, who gave the Liverpool Centrum-Back a 2-rating. He was replaced by Dayot Upamecano during the break while he suffered from what Didier Deschamps described as a “knock”.
Saliba Fardt hardly better. He was beaten on the ball on the first goal. During his performance, L'équipe said: “He was tormented by Ante Budimir in frightening proportions and could even have admitted a penalty in the 43rd minute.”
The French International had a better second half, as noted by L'équipe, who then gave him a 3 rating. A piece from the publication this morning Saliba and Konaté as “A Duo in Hell”. Both have certainly had better days.
