As the European football season ends, and with the final of the Champions League to come – where Inter or PSG will claim the last big trophy of the year – the United States can already celebrate a year of remarkable success on the continent.
On Wednesday, Chelsea was crowned UEFA Conference League Champions, the first major trophy of the club under ownership of Todd Boehly. The victory firmly places Boehly a growing list of American investors who achieve success in the top competitions of Europe.
Chelsea is now joining Crystal Palace and Liverpool as English clubs under American ownership to lift silverware this season.
Liverpool, owned by Fenway Sports Group and led by the new coach Arne Slot, won the Premier League title for the first time in five years – an important goal for the American group and one of their most important achievements to date.
Crystal Palace also earned a chair at this table with triumphs after beating Manchester City to win the FA Cup, an amazing upset by John Textor's Eagles about the heavy favorites.
Inter can close for a large year for clubs in American ownership
The season could yield one last high for clubs by American clubs.
Inter Milan, owned by Oaktree Capital, is preparing for PSG in the final of the Champions League. If the Italian side claims the title, it would seal a spectacular year for clubs sent from American boardrooms, adding the Champions League trophy to an already impressive American collection.
