Last summer, Xavi Hernandez's spell of two and a half years ended when the Barcelona head coach finished when he was fired for hiring Hansi film. Since then he enjoys time away from football – and more importantly, with his family.
He also remained away from the public spotlights, although he was interviewed by France earlier this week. According to Diario as, he spoke about his time with Barcelona manager, but before that he revealed that before he arrived in November 2021 as a replacement for Ronald Koeman, he had been reached several times by the Catalans.
“Barcelona had already come to me twice for Laporta's call, but I still didn't feel ready. That is why I spent two and a half seasons in Al Sadd in which I could train, try things and win titles. “
In his time that was in charge of Barcelona, Xavi admitted that the departure of Jordi Cruyff and Mateu Alemany influenced him in the summer of 2023. He also regretted his management style, of which he thinks it was sometimes influenced by the sentimental feeling he is holding towards the club.
“My first year and a half in Barcelona was very, very good. We had a good project with Mateu Alemany and Jordi Cruyff so we could finish second in La Liga, before we won the competition in 2023, as well as the Spanish Super Cup. Then the results were less good. The departure of Jordi and Mateu was a hard blow.
“In retrospect, our results are very positive, because the club was in one of the worst situations in its history, even worse than in the early 2000s. The expectations were very high compared to my story. My deep attachment to Barcelona sometimes didn't affect me, maybe I was sometimes too sentimental, but this adventure was a real learning experience. “
Xavi is now looking ahead to his next management experience, of which he admitted that it could be in Spain, albeit not with Barcelona.
