Atalanta consolidated their place in the top four of the Serie A after winning a narrow 1-0 win to AC Milan on Sunday.
The side of Gian Piero Gasperini is in third place in the rankings, four points ahead of Bologna, who surprised Leaders Inter Milan earlier in the day.
The first half in the Giuseppe Meazza Stadio offered little in terms of Target Mouth promotion, with only one shot on goal between the two sides before the break.
Luka Jovic came closest to opening the score in the first 45 minutes, but he could not test Marco Carnesecchi up close after finding space to shoot.
Milan came in again when Rafael Leao avoided the cross over the area and just avoided Christian Pulisic, but it was Atalanta who got their nose in front just after the hour.
The cross from breathola lookman to the back post was played back in the area by Raoul Bellanova, where Edererson's Duikkop found his way along Mike Maignan.
Atalanta almost doubled their lead late, but the efforts of Mateo Retegui were thoroughly thinned by the boot of the Captain Maignan of Milan.
The result saw Jeers around the stadium echoing the supporters of home, who continued to express their frustration about the hierarchy of Milan after a bad series of results.
The side of Sergio Concukicao is now nine points on drift of the top four with five games of their remaining season.
