AC Milan coach Conceicao: We deserved our Supercoppa win

Milan was Conceicao's first game in charge and came from behind to win 2-1 in Riyadh on Friday evening.

“Football is passion and excitement, these are wonderful moments,” Conceicao told Sport Mediaset.

“They deserved this win for the second half performance, while in the first half I saw the same kind of Milan that played a few weeks ago, with the players questionable in defense, too tired to move the ball and the timing of to get the pressure wrong. .

“At half-time we changed a few things, looked each other in the eye and the players had to realize what they had to do to win the game. They had to do what we had prepared, and it is my responsibility if we lose 2-0 or 3-0. So they were really brave in the second half and it was completely different from the first.

“I'm happy, but we haven't done anything yet. We are in the Final and have to prepare to play Inter.”

When Conceicao turned things around after half-time, he said: “During those five minutes in the locker room, I certainly didn't give the team any kisses or hugs. In fact, I got quite angry because they didn't do what I requested or prepared. I see a group of players who are modest and sometimes lack the determination to move on, but that can come with time.

“Players need a kind word, but sometimes also a harsh word. I'll be honest: I'm not the nicest coach who likes to hug and reassure my players; i usually get angrier than anything.

“The most important thing for this team is to work hard, have a lot of positive energy and achieve their goal together, because they have the quality. I am happy that the group has accepted my message, that I am not a coach who smiles so much, because I am not here to make friends, but I am here to win.”
