The Portuguese stated late on Sunday evening after the 1-1 draw against Roma in an interview with Sky Italia that he had been fired.
About eight hours later, Milan confirmed Fonseca's words with a statement of just two lines:
“AC Milan announces that Paulo Fonseca has been relieved of his duties as Head Coach of the Men's First Team. The Club expresses its gratitude to Paulo for his great professionalism and wishes him all the best in his future endeavours.”
Fonseca was appointed Milan coach on 13 June 2024 with a three-year contract starting on 1 July.
