Joris Chotard, 23, was heavily linked with a move away from Montpellier HSC in the summer before ultimately staying with his formative club, but he is now being targeted by an Italian giant, according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport.
According to L'Équipe, Chotard was the subject of an approach from Wolfsburg this summer. The Bundesliga side's bid was worth €7 million plus €2 million in fees, and despite La Paillade's fragile financial situation, it was rejected. Sporting director Bruno Carotti rejected that approach, assuming there would be a second offer. That did not happen and Chotard remained in the Mosson. Given the France U21 international's desire to take on a new challenge and MHSC's need to sell, it was an arrangement that didn't really suit either party. The relationship between Chotard and Carotti has reportedly been strained since then.
However, the midfielder may get another chance to leave the club in January. AC Milan are looking for midfield reinforcements and his name has been added to their shortlist. RB Salzburg's Lucas Gourna-Douath and Boubakary Soumaré are also on the Serie A shortlist.
