AC MILAN have given up their pursuit of Marcus Rashford in their bid to land Kyle Walker.
Both England stars are desperate to escape Manchester amid torrid seasons, with both on the Italian giants' radar.
However, under Serie A rules, clubs are only allowed to register one British player per year.
And Milan have opted to strengthen their defense with a move for 34-year-old right-back Walker from Manchester City.
The 93-cap England star has won six Premier League titles at the Etihad but has fallen down Pep Guardiola's pecking order during a turbulent year on and off the pitch.
Now L'Equipe claim Milan have decided not to use Rashford – who has been frozen out under new Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim – to land Walker.
Calciomercato reports that Walker and Milan have agreed personal terms on a two-and-a-half-year contract, which expires at the end of the 2026/27 season – by which time he will be 37.
And Matteo Moretto has revealed that Walker is in talks to TERMINATE his contract with Man City – which currently runs until the end of next season – allowing him to complete a free transfer.
There were reports that Walker would only leave the Etihad on loan.
However, latest reports suggest the move will be permanent.
The talks are scheduled for later on Friday and a deal could be announced by the weekend.
Last weekend, SunSport exclusively revealed that Walker was targeted by Inter Milan.
But AC Milan now appear to be in the lead, and that could spell the end of Fikayo Tomori's time with the Rossoneri.
Walker has dramatically asked to leave Man City for a move abroad.
His desire to leave was announced by manager Pep Guardiola after last week's 8-0 defeat to Salford in the FA Cup.
Guardiola revealed: “It is not easy for me to say, but Kyle is not here because two days ago he asked to explore the options of playing abroad at the end of his career.
“He asked about the Treble two years ago, when Bayern wanted him, but the offer was not good enough.”
Earlier this week, SunSport revealed Walker had turned down a mega-money move to Saudi Arabia.
The defender feared a move to the lucrative Saudi League would end his chance to add to his 93 Three Lions caps.
For Rashford, meanwhile, he is being chased by a host of clubs, with Napoli seemingly leading the race as they aim to replace PSG-bound Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
There remains interest from Saudi Arabia but Rashford, who wants to regain his place in the England squad, is said to be not keen on the idea of moving there.
