The defeat of Manchester United in Arsenal has reopened the debate around the goalkeeper position, so that the club has left a decision that they can no longer postpone.
After an error from Altay Bayindir, which turned out to be decisive in the loss of 1-0, the spotlight is again in the United recruitment team.
They have not yet signed a new keeper – but are busy, among other things, to do this.
On Sunday, with Andre Onana who missed in the team, Bayindir got a rare start, but rated a routine corner situation that led to the winner of Arsenal.
It was a reminder of how expensive errors can be in this position – even in competitions where United otherwise carries out control.
Concerns about United's goalkeeper options is not new. Recruitment staff had previously marked the position as a risk area and Ruben Amorim agreed in the summer.
Sources indicated that he wanted to be able to have a familiar No. 1 that was not error -sensitive.
The Focus mainly shifted to strengthening midfield and attacking options, but exploratory work was performed for between the sticks – clearly show that there is some intention to sign someone new.
So far there have been three main considerations. United recently held provisional discussions with the representatives of Gianluigi Donnarumma, while a possible loan for Emiliano MartÃnez was really considered.
The club has also checked the 23-year-old Senne Lammens of Antwerp as a younger option, and there are indications that he could still be a player that they pursue before Deadline Day.
They may need a departure to release squadron space and wages. With Onana there is a possibility that they try to find a new home for him – even on loan – let in the window.
There will now be new meetings to decide whether the position of the goalkeeper will seriously harm their progress.
