After leaving Pumas, the former Liga MX star has identified his next destination

After not securing a place in Pumas's first team plans, midfielder Leonardo Suárez returns to Argentina to continue his professional career at Estudiantes de la Plata.

The movement marks home for the South -American playmaker, who, after more than a decade abroad, returns to his native country, hoping to rediscover his best form.

Keylor a catalyst for the output of Suárez

Pumas' decision to use their last end of foreign players on Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas left Suárez on the outside. Initially registered with the U-21 team of the club, the scheme was only temporary, because the front office worked out a loan agreement with an option to buy for the Argentinian to join Estudiantes.

“His cycle here is over”

Suárez, who previously played for clubs such as Santos Laguna and Boca Juniors, was no longer part of Pumas' plans under new head coach Ephraín Juárez. The Mexican manager made it clear that the time of Suárez had his course with the club.

“I believe that his cycle is over here – that's how I see it,” Juárez said in an interview with Análisis Puma. “He came back from a serious injury and began to get the shape back to us, but based on what I want from a football team, he does not fit into the profile I need in that position – neither defensively nor attacking.”

The departure of Suárez is part of a broader restructuring at Pumas for the Apertura 2025 tournament, because the club is looking for both the playing style and the dynamics of the dressing room.
