In recent years, Barcelona has been relatively quiet on the transfer market, largely because of their well -documented financial problems that limit signing efforts. The recent departure of Inigo Martinez will help the situation, but it will not make that much dent compared to a large exit.
The will of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Frenkie de Jong and Robert Lewandowski are among the highest earners in Barcelona, and all three players have been connected to outputs in the last 12 months. For now, all three remain, although that was perhaps not the case for the Polish striker.
Lewandowski, who unveiled earlier this week, that he will take a move to Manchester United earlier in his career, also rejected the chance to become the latest big name to sign for a Saudi Aarabic club, as was revealed by his agent Pini Zahavi during an interview with FAKT (via MD).
“Barcelona is his place on earth, where he feels most comfortable. Moreover, clubs in Saudi Aarabia are full of players; they don't know what to do with them. There is a limit on the number of allowed foreigners, which limits their options. But Robert didn't want to play there.
“A year ago he received a concrete offer. They offered him more than € 100 million per season, but he preferred to fight for La Liga and the Champions League. And he achieved almost both objectives.”
Barcelona will have been grateful for staying Lewandowski, given that he scored 42 goals in 52 performances last season. However, there is every chance that he will still make the switch to Saudi Aarabia, with clubs that are said to be able to acquire him next summer when his contract ends in Catalonia.
As it looks now, it is expected that Lewandowski will leave the next summer to have a younger striker signed in his place. However, there is still a chance that he will stay in Barcelona until at least 2027, with discussions about that issue that is expected to take place in the coming months.
