Al-Ahli 4-1 Al-Kholood: Mahrez and Toney on target as hosts run riot

Ah-Ahli bounced back strongly from a bruises to Al-Shabab last time to pick up a dominant 4-1 victory over Al-Kholood on Saturday.

Feras Al Brikan broke the impasse two minutes in the second half after Gabri Veiga saw an excellent effort refusing through the woodwork early.

Myziane Maolida also hit the post for Al-Colood in the first half, although the visitors had difficulty imposing themselves on while Al-Ahli took over control.

Al-Kholood was then lucky to draw level thanks to Matteo Dams' own goal at the hour marker, but Riyad Mahrez recovered the management within just six minutes, clinical lock along Marcelo Grohe.

Sumayhan Al Nabit extended the benefit of Al-Ahli in the 77th minute after the Merih Demiral arrangement.

And all Nabit was again the catalyst and pulled a mistake in William Troost-Ekong's box to win his side a penalty.

Ivan Toney grabbed cool home from 12 meters out in the 86th minute and sealed a largely comfortable victory for the hosts.

Gabri Veiga saw another good chance of begging in the dying minutes, while Toney had not hit the goal up close in stopping time.

After having won the AFC Champions League earlier this month, Al-Ahli is driving high and Saturday's victory held them in fifth place with 64 points, level with Al-Nassr.

Al-Kholood is now 13th in the Saudi Pro League rankings, four points drift from the Dropzone with two more games.

Data Debrief: Al-Ahli is expanding their dominant line

Saturday's game was only the second Saudi Pro League meeting between Al-Ahli and Al-Kholood, in which the last meeting had won.

Al-Ahli, however, quickly straightened the record and continued their dominance about newly promoted teams with a commander's victory.

They are now unbeaten in their last 37 home games against freshly promoted parties (W28 D9), including seven straight victories, the first time they had done this against such teams.

In the meantime, Toney is enjoying a fantastic season. This season, the Engelsman has now contributed to 25 goals for Al-Ahli (21 goals, four assists).

The last Al-Ahli players who have so many or more target contributions in one season were Djaniny (26) and Omar al-Somah (25), both in the 2018-19 season.
