Alan Shearer issues Arsenal worrying double warning over Alexander Isak transfer

Alan Shearer believes only one club could sign Alexander Isak this month – but he would have to pay him MORE than £150m.

The Swedish striker has been one of the standout players in the Premier League this season. He has already scored fifteen goals in all competitions this season.

That has seen Isak linked with a host of clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool, while it has been suggested that Newcastle would demand at least £150million for their star striker. But Magpies icon Shearer believes even that could be enough, suggesting the Blues may be the only club who can afford him.

Speaking to Betfair, Shearer said: “Apart from Chelsea, I really don't think anyone can afford to buy Alexander Isak; because of the way the rules are structured at PSR, I don't think anyone could afford him.

“I will never say that the PSR rules are a good thing. Even without these rules, I'm not sure anyone would be able to pay the price Newcastle would ask to sell him.

'I suspect they wouldn't even enjoy it. If you paid £63 million for someone and he crushed the league like he is doing now, what would the price be?

“I've seen talk of £150 million but I don't think they would even be interested in that, why would they do that? The problem would then be getting someone in who could do an equally good job.

“That's what everyone needs at the moment: a centre-forward. There isn't a club in the country that wouldn't buy a centre-forward like Isak if he was available.”

Isak, 25, has three and a half years left on his contract at St James' Park. And it seems he is in no rush to leave the club anytime soon.

“Playing football at this level has always been a dream and probably the most important dream I have had,” he told Prime Video Sverige. “Playing in the Premier League for a club like Newcastle, with a fan base like they have here, is extra special.”

Nevertheless, ex-Liverpool star Emile Heskey sees a route out of Newcastle for Isak. He has suggested that an agreement could be reached between the club and the player over a transfer if they fail to secure a place in the Champions League for next season.

Isak joined Newcastle from Spanish side Real Sociedad in 2022 in a deal worth a reported £63 million. Since then he has scored 50 goals in 89 appearances.
