Alan Shearer has stressed that the Premier League title race still has plenty to offer as we approach the halfway point of the season.
Liverpool are top of the table at Christmas after a remarkable start to Arne Slot's first season on Merseyside.
Despite making just one senior signing in the summer, the Dutchman has so far avoided the trap that often plagues teams when a long-serving manager leaves a club.
The Reds are fresh off defeat in all competitions under Slot and are currently four points ahead of Chelsea with a game in hand.
Meanwhile, reigning champions Manchester City have almost fallen out of the race as they are in the midst of their worst spell under Pep Guardiola.
However, despite Liverpool's impressive start, Shearer warned that the title race is by no means a done deal.
“Look, there's still plenty to play for,” the former England captain told Betfair.
'But Liverpool look really impressive, I know they've conceded a few goals, two against Newcastle, two at home against Fulham and three on Sunday.
But their performance against Spurs and their response were great, especially after Chelsea drew and Arsenal won and put a bit of pressure on them.
“They have really looked at it and have a strong team with players who are ready to come off the bench and help their team. They will definitely take a hit.
“I think this season has been a very different season so far for so many reasons. Look at Bournemouth, Forest, Chelsea and even Liverpool with their new manager.
“So many different things have happened and the unpredictability we've seen so far is incredible.”
While being top at Christmas has often proven to be an early indicator of title success, Liverpool have a seriously undesirable record in that regard.
This season marks the seventh time the Reds have occupied top spot on December 25 since the top flight's rebrand in 1992.
The only time they achieved success was under Jurgen Klopp in the 2019/20 season.
