Alan Shearer makes Arteta sack claim as he tells Gunners bosses what must happen

The Arsenal of Mikel Arteta will have to endure a trophy-free campaign this season because of their recent exit from the Champions League due to the task of Paris Saint-Germain

Alan Shearer has thrown his support behind Mikel Arteta and insists that the Arsenal board must support him with more new signing sessions. The Champions League dreams of the Gunners were stepped by Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday evening, with a 2-1 defeat that led to a 3-1 total loss in the semi-final.

It meant that their hope for silverware was destroyed this season because they have been presented comfortably on the Premier League title by Liverpool. With the wrestling of Manchester, many thought that this was Arsenal's chance to win the title, but they have not been able to keep pace with the side of Arne Slot.

At the beginning of May, former Arsenal-shot stopper Jens Lehmann said that the job of Arteta could be endangered if their run continues without trophy. Shearer believes that the bag would be too loud for Arteta, and insists that the EX-City Assistant Manager should be more supported in the transfer toys.

Shearer said to Betfair: “If Arsenal gets a striker, I think Arteta is the man to get them over the line. I have not changed my opinion from the start of the season.

“I said if they got a top striker, I believe they would be a challenge for everything. I think if they can solve that problem, yes Arteta can do.

“But it has been a bad season because of their very high standards. They want and have to win things.

“I know they won the FA Cup five years ago, but for Arsenal they were the second best in the Champions League, Carabao Cup and the Premier League, so no genius is needed to work out what to do.

“I would think that Arsenal has to sign two or three Big-Hitters and a striker must certainly be at the top of their list. That must be done for Arsenal to reach the next level and win the Champions League of Premier League.

“The problem they have now is that there are now so many other clubs looking for strikers. They will be on a really busy market. Liverpool, Man United and Chelsea all need a striker, so Arsenal will be in a busy market.”

Despite a season that did not go completely according to the plan for Arsenal fans, many attribute the struggles of the team to the long-term injuries of important players such as Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Magalhaes, Kai Havertz and others. The Gunners had their moments against PSG, but could not break the resistance of Ginaluigi Donnarumma.

Arteta now faces the challenge of concentrating his team again, which runs the risk of being pulled into a struggle for the top five. They are currently in second place, but with a challenging trip to Anfield to face reigning champions Liverpool, and a home game against Newcastle United on the Horizon.

They are still mathematically secure the place in the Champions League and now the city of Pep Guardiola is breathing in third position, three points behind and with a better goal difference.

Chelsea is also at a striking distance, only four points on Drift after a successful run that sought them about Fulham, Everton and Liverpool.
