Alex Pereira teases ‘second chance’ for rival he knocked out after controversial refereeing incident

Alex Pereira could give a surprise former opponent a 'second chance' at his UFC title if he can win another fight.

The Brazilian viciously knocked out Jamahal Hill in the main event of UFC 300 at T-Mobile Arena in April. But the former champion believes an incident where Herb Dean chose not to temporarily stop the fight for an illegal punch after initially appearing to do so is the reason for his loss.

Since then, Hill has been recovering from a knee injury that forced him to leave UFC 303, where the champion also headlined. He will now return to UFC 311 in January, where he will face fellow Pereira victim Jiri Prochazka.

After a bizarre back-and-forth between Jiri Prochazka and Jamahal Hill, Alex Pereira decided to intervene. He shared a photo of the pair facing each other, calling Hill “my son” and stating that he might get another shot at the gold if he wins.

“Calm down, my son,” Pereira wrote in a tweet that has been viewed more than a million times in just a few hours. “Pass this test and Dad will give you a second chance.”

This followed with Hill telling Prochazka that his defeat to Pereira was more impressive than that of the Czech fighters because he 'got caught' while the others were dominant. “We had the same opponent last fight,” Hill said in a recent YouTube video.

“In your last performance you were dominated. Dominated and disabled. Completely sealed off, completely exposed and then done, bad, bro. You did a bad job. I got caught, you got dominated, there's a huge difference, do you feel what I'm saying?

“With my husband (Pereira), your ponytail literally hung to the left. I hope you wear that same ponytail in LA so I can lean that motherfucker in front of you left and right… This is insane.”

Jamahal Hill hits back at Alex Pereira after 'son' jibe

In typical Jamahal Hill fashion, the brash Michigan native immediately had his answer ready for Pereira in another social media outburst. He claims his attack is among the best in the division, and the Brazilian knew it when they first came into action.

“It's funny how you rushed a little round tree [Khalil Rountree Jr] and stupid Jiri like you were the guy but waited until the refs got in the way to wave at me,” Hill wrote. “You will see me again soon at 100 percent and we both know the fear that was in your heart!!”

Hill was undefeated before facing Pereira, and had never actually lost his light heavyweight title inside the octagon. He was forced out when an injury cost him a year of his career after beating Glover Texeira for the title, and arguably returned a bit quickly to face Pereira and save a big card.

What irritates Hill about his fight with Pereira is the final scene, in which he feels the champion used an awkward moment with referee Herb Dean to close the distance. This led to him receiving a brutal knockout and retaining the belt.

Hill needs to stop with this “it's Herb Dean's fault” story 😅😅 nut shot, 2 thumbs up, acknowledged the mistake, high fived Pereira, backed up, threw the first punch, came up clean.. stop it Jamahal 😂 pic.twitter . com/SaryToSI8D

After Hill received what appeared to be a low blow, Dean began to intervene and temporarily halt the proceedings. But in a rare move he accepted Pereira's insistence that it was okay and they should carry on, after which the former champion believes he lost his cool and let his rival in.

“You really threw a punch that you couldn't achieve without a weird confusing moment and you did some weak stuff,” Hill said in an Instagram post earlier this year. “But it's okay because you'll fight me again and my eyes won't leave you until you're as stiff as Izzy left you in Miami.”
