Alex Pereira teases UFC 312 comeback as he shares cryptic message fo Australian fans

Alex Pereira has sent a cryptic message to his fans in Sydney speculating about his Octagonal return.

The light heavyweight champion made two short-notice appearances in 2024 as he defended his title three times with major knockout victories. Since stopping Khalil Rountree Jr at UFC 307, he has been enjoying a much-needed break from all the action.

But he appeared to tease a return to action in a new social media post, and it could happen as early as February at UFC 312 in Sydney.

After a few months out of action, recovering from a tougher-than-expected performance in October, Alex Pereira appears to be getting itchy knuckles again. He is constantly in the news and participates in various events and viral memes, but also always trains at a high level.

And the Brazilian took to Instagram last night to share a video for his Australian fans. In the short clip, fans speculate that he could join Dricus Du Plessis and Sean Strickland on the pay-per-view card, which takes place on February 8.

In the video, Pereira is seen hitting the heavy bag before telling viewers in Portuguese: “Happy New Year Australia, I miss you, I hope you are doing well. See you in February, Chama!” He captioned the video: “Goodbye, Sydney, Australia! CHAMA.”

Alex Pereira has called for a title fight with Dricus Du Plessis

While he may not line up for a fight himself this time, Alex Pereira could be scouting a future opponent. A former middleweight champion, it seemed his journey in the division was over after he lost his title and moved up to light heavyweight.

However, since winning the title, Dricus Du Plessis has been eyeing a move back in weight. After South African defeated Israel Adesanya in July, Pereira teased a possible fight, saying: “I am focused on my next fight and going into prepared, but you never know what can happen.

“So regardless of the result, I want to move up to middleweight again and go for the belt. Hey Dricus, bring your will to fight me so you can prove you're better than me. With your public statement it's easy for this to happen, Chama.

Dricus Du Plessis responds to Alex Pereira's call

For his part, Du Plessis has agreed to the idea, but would rather make weight and fight for a second world title. He noted that he prefers his opponents to have no excuses about the division, and because he knows how big Pereira is, he can see them coming from miles away.

“I honestly don't think Alex Pereira should drop to 185,” he said immediately after the Adesanya fight. “If that's what he wants, fine, perfect. But then we'll hear the excuses. I saw Izzy stiff that guy in the first round.

'I felt Izzy's punch tonight. Izzy has great timing, he's fast, he's long and he has great combinations, but I felt the power.

“If Izzy makes you so hard, you don't want to be there with me, especially if you have to come in there and say, 'Oh, I lost too much weight.' That's going to happen. Everyone is going to say it.”
