Alex Pereira trains with MMA legend for Power Slap debut amid talks for UFC return

Alex Pereira is clearly bored during his short spell on the sidelines.

The UFC light heavyweight champion had a hectic year in 2024, defending his title three times.

'Poatan' broke Ronda Rousey's long-standing defensive record when he knocked out Khalil Rountree Jr at UFC 308 in October.

Since then, he has been staying in the gym with his coach, former UFC champion Glover Teixeira, awaiting a new opponent and fight date.

Power Slap skit by Alex Pereira

On Friday, Alex Pereira shared a hilarious video with his 6.2 million followers on Instagram.

It showed him with his hands behind his back as Teixeira lined up a punch and unleashed it on his face.

Of course, the Brazilian fighting legend didn't risk hurting his star client by getting involved.

Teixeira stopped short and Pereira pretended to take the hit in a Power Slap skit that had people laughing.

The UFC superstar wobbled around the gym but stayed on his feet until the camera cut out.

“Helping @gloverteixeira get the @powerslap flames,” Pereira captioned the viral clip.

UFC legend Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson, who recently revealed he made $7 million to fight Tito Ortiz, got the top reaction with shocked and crying laughing emojis.

Rodrigo 'Minotauro' Nogueira joked: “Hey, take it easy.”

One fan said: “Blink twice if Dana makes you post this. Chama.”

What's next for Alex Pereira?

Top light heavyweight contender Magomed Ankalaev appears to be next in line for a shot at Alex Pereira.

However, the 37-year-old champion recently distanced himself from the match, saying: “It won't be Ankalaev!”

Ankalaev quickly replied with “Chicken,” alongside three chicken emojis.

The opponent remains a mystery, but Pereira could return to action at UFC 312 in Sydney in February.

In a recent Instagram video, Pereira is seen hitting the heavy bag before telling viewers in Portuguese: “Happy New Year Australia, I miss you, I hope you are doing well. See you in February, Chama!”

He captioned the video: “Goodbye, Sydney, Australia! CHAMA.”

Dana White has not yet made any official comment on where and when Pereira will fight next.

The 205-pound king can drop all the hints he wants, but until the UFC boss speaks, fans will remain in the dark.
