Alex Pereira’s former UFC rival shares one major adjustment he’ll have to make for Magomed Ankalaev rematch

Jamahal Hill has indicated an important change Alex Pereira will have to take care of the Magomed Ankalaev Rematch.

Nu formator UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Alex Pereira lost the belt of Magomed Ankalaev on UFC 313 earlier this month, with which he ended his history title line. After successfully defending the title three times in 2024, Pereira looked close to Ankalaev and lost a unanimous decision.

It was a shocking defeat for Pereira after he had become one of the best pound-for-pound hunters in the sport and was about to have a potential megaight against Jones or Tom Aspinall. Now he will probably have to regain the light heavyweight throne to make a strong case for an immediate heavyweight title shot against the Jones vs. Aspinall winner.

But for now Pereira's attention is aimed at revenge on Ankalaev and a different title line. One of Pereira's brightest rivals pointed to one specific adjustment that he has to make to make the Rematch to stop Ankalaev's undefeated line.

Jamahal Hill advises Alex Pereira prior to likely Magomed Ankalaev Rematch

During a recent interview with Home of Fight, Jamahal Hill explained what Pereira will have to do to guarantee the victory in Ankalaev's rematch.

“I think he can, he is really able to make the adjustments he has to make to win that fight,” Hill said about Pereira. “He will have to be locked up in the gym where he doesn't get tired, his cardio has to raise a lot, because his output will have to go up.

“His output with the stairs … Add more stairs and work much more to have a higher volume with stairs in this fight it will get it done. But we will see!”

Hill took Pereira in the run -up to UFC 313, chose Ankalaev and opened the door to a potential knockout finish. Pereira hit Hill at UFC 300 last year in what his first light heavyweight was defending defense.

In the weeks after UFC 313, Pereira opted for an optimistic approach for an Ankalaev -Rematch, which teases countless adjustments that he plans to make their second fight. Ankalaev coordinated verbally with the Pereira Rematch almost immediately after UFC 313.

The Ankalaev coach gave Glover Teixeira the blame for the allegations, but from this letter there is no direct proof of misconduct from Pereira or his team. Pereira has not publicly commented on the claims of Ankalaev.

Hill will be opposite Khalil Rountree Jr. are confronted in the main event of UFC Kansas City, while he looks back from his loss at UFC 311. He lost to Jiří Procházka by TKO to drop his second consecutive fight.

Pereira is not a popular choice to win the Rematch against Ankalaev, as according to the recent analysis by Robert Whittaker. But if he makes the necessary adjustments, Pereira may return to the throne.
