Alex Pereira’s heavyweight hopes dashed as former dual-weight champion questions key attribute

Daniel Cormier does not believe that Alex Pereira could compete with the best heavyweights of the UFC.

The former Champion with double weight of UFC won famous titles in slightly heavyweight and heavy, even though it was only 5FT 11 in.

Alex Pereira seems to be much better suited for the largest division of MMA at 6ft 4 – but after watching the favorite of the Brazilian fan loss against Magomed Ankalaev on UFC 313 on Saturday evening, Daniel Cormier could hang into a heavyweight.

'DC' has come to the conclusion that Pereira is not 'strong enough' to compete with Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall.

Daniel Cormier explains why Alex Pereira cannot compete in heavyweight

Daniel Cormier was on a commentary obligation with Jon Anik and Joe Rogan, who went viral for his hilarious flub on UFC 313.

After he saw Pereira losing up close, 45-year-old UFC Hall of Famer decided that he does not need what is needed to have an impact on heavyweight.

“Looking at him and Ankalaev fighting, it gives me the idea,” Cormier said about a good guy / bad guy.

“I think he maximizes the weight he can have up.

“I don't think he's strong enough to get bigger with someone.

“The amount of pressure that Ankalaev could generate without the danger returning to him as we expected, those heavyweights would just just walk through what he threw at him.”

What is the next step for Alex Pereira?

It seems very unlikely that Pereira will soon increase a weight class.

At the moment there is an unfinished things with Ankalaev and the 205LB division.

UFC boss Dana White says that he is 'probably' booking an immediate rematch between Pereira and Ankalaev.

The new light heavyweight champion has already agreed to defend his belt against Pereira.

Vecht fans now have to wait until the UFC bosses announce a date and location for the Rematch.
