Trent Alexander-Arnold will experience few problems that adapt to life in Spain as his expected move to Real Madrid materializes, says former Liverpool right back Glen Johnson.
The future of Alexander-Arnold in Anfield has been the subject of a lot of debate this campaign, with the four-year contract he had signed in 2021 to end in June.
The Spanish and European Champions Madrid have long been credited with an interest in Alexander-Arnold, and widespread reports on Tuesday claimed that he told his current club about his desire to move to Spain.
Alexander-Arnold joined the Liverpool academy for the first time at the age of six in 2004, and his shimmering spell with his boy's club seems to end with a second Premier League winner medal.
He also won the FA Cup, EFL Cup, Community Shield, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup since he broke into the first team of Reds in 2016-17.
If he were to complete a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, Alexander-Arnold only became the seventh Englishman that Madrid represents since the Spanish competition system was founded in 1929.
And with three-part teammate Jude Bellingham, Johnson is already exciting that the adjustment of Alexander-Arnold will be seamless.
Johnson exclusively spoke against statistics and said: “It is not yet signed and done, but of course it probably looks. He is a world -class player and he has enough years for him.
“I'm sure Jude will help him settle. I am sure that the club and everyone around him will help him settle if the move continues.
“Good players adapt fairly quickly, so if it continues, I don't doubt that he will settle and enjoy it.”
Johnson left Liverpool at the end of the 2014-15 season, just over a year before Alexander-Arnold got his senior debut from former Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.
“I didn't really know him in the academy,” Johnson thought. “When we were in the club at the same time, I of course knew the name, but he never trained with the first team when I was there.
“I didn't know much about how he played then. You just hear about some good talents that get through in all kinds of different positions, so we never really crossed paths when we were together.”
Alexander-Arnold has become known for his creativity at Full-Back, with his 64 assists the most by every defender in the Premier League history, for teammate Andy Robertson (59).
After he also scored 17 goals, he is second for the total goal of Doelen among all defenders in the Premier League (81), after former Wigan Athletic and Everton left back Leighton Baines (85).
His output, however, lost weight in the last two seasons.
His seven target contributions in 2023-24 were his least in every Premier League campaign since 2017-18 (two), and he has so far eight this period (two goals, six assists).
The 254 Premier League performances by Alexander-Arnold brought him in ninth place among all Liverpool players, but he was able to overtake Roberto Firmoino for the end of the season, with the Brazilian two for his total. Jamie Carragher is at the forefront of 508, marginal for Steven Gerrard's 504.
