Trent Alexander-Arnold had a telling celebration in Liverpool amid claims he is ready to leave the club.
The Reds defender has just six months left on his contract at Anfield and could open talks with overseas clubs over a free transfer once the January transfer window opens. Spanish giants Real Madrid are among his admirers.
According to claims in recent days, a move to the Bernabeu has never been closer. Reports in Spain claimed a deal is 'almost done' and would be announced in the summer out of respect for Liverpool.
But it appears Alexander-Arnold is willing to put any speculation behind him after making a striking gesture against West Ham. The defender found the net in the Reds' 5-0 win against the Hammers via a huge deflection off Max Kilman – his first goal of the season.
During the celebrations, the right back put his hand to his ear as if he were talking. The gesture certainly got fans speculating.
Taking to social media, a Reds fan said: “Trent Alexander-Arnold having an interesting celebration after scoring that goal. I wonder what he's trying to imply,” with another saying, “Trent Alexander-Arnold is sending a message with his celebration.”
Another added: “Honestly I'm confused about this Trent Alexander-Arnold party. Is he silencing the Spanish rumors or are Liverpool fans thinking he won't be a Liverpool legend if he signs for Real Madrid?'
And while it appears Alexander-Arnold is not keen on talks about his future, the same can certainly be said of his manager. Liverpool boss Arne Slot also provided an update on Alexander-Arnold and the other two Liverpool stars who will soon be out of contract following the win at the London Stadium.
He said, “No, I don't think it's negative at all. He's playing really well, scored a great goal and the way he celebrated his goal probably says it all. I don't think I need to say much more about it.
“I am very happy with Trent, just as happy as I am with Mo and with Virgil. So for me there is no difference. To the outside world, there may be a few more things happening around Trent in the media than with the other two, but I am happy with all three at the moment.”
Alexander-Arnold's goal was one of five goals scored by Liverpool against West Ham. Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Salah and Diogo Jota also found the net. The Reds are back in action next weekend when they take on fierce rivals Manchester United.
