'The Great' won his featherweight belt back by opening Diego Lopes on UFC 314 in April.
It seemed that he was destined to defend the belt of 145 pounds by 19-0 competition Movsar Evloev.
However, the Russian hunter recently confirmed that he would return to a non-title in July in a non-title fight.

Alexander Volkanovski vs Yair Rodriguez 2?
Alexander Volkanovski easily defeated Yair Rodriguez with a TKO on the third round to defend the featherweight title for the fourth time in 2023.
Since then, the Mexican has gone 1-1 and has not done anything to recover itself as the number one competitions at 145 pounds.
Yet rumors about a title fight Rematch between Volkanovski and Rodriguez have been for weeks.
“It is quite clear that it would not be Movsar,” said Aussie FOX Sports's favorite on Wednesday.
“I thought it would be because he was unbeaten. I think they linked him.
“You have seen him tweet something about that, so he has already gone out and has made it public that he unfortunately cannot fight for the title.
“Yair's name has surfaced, but no dates have now been set.
“I think it is just a lot of moving parts because of all the divisions.
“I think a lot is happening now and we will see what is coming up.
“The rumors that you all hear are almost true, but nothing is locked up.”

'The Reaper' claimed to speak for everyone when rumors over the Rematch appeared for the first time.
“Nobody wants to see this hunter,” Whittaker said laughing on his podcast.
“Nobody was thinking at home:” Do you know which battle I want to run back? People and Yair. “
Rodriguez shot him for his comments on social media before he was asked to address them while he was sitting centimeters of Volkanovski.
“He is an emotional man,” said Whittaker about Rodriguez.
“I supported him in many of his fighting and I only said good things.
“I didn't even tell him something negative … He has to relax a bit.”
